If I could give any advice to someone transitioning into tech, it would be not to be afraid to ask questions and surround yourself with a supportive community – people who are also passionate about tech and can help you grow. For me, being part of programs like NurtureMeMentoring and having mentors, both within the industry and outside of it, has been invaluable. They've helped me find my footing, build confidence in my communication, and navigate those sometimes-overwhelming first-year experiences. Having that support system has been crucial to my growth.
The additional support from NurtureMeMentoring has been the cherry on top and has empowered me to grow with confidence, stay grounded, and show up fully.
NurtureMe Mentoring - Thank you so much for the continuous support from everyone. I am so grateful.
The support that the group gives me to, even in the moment where I don't celebrate myself. The ability to share the knowledge i've gained from making many mistakes with others, which has allowed them to course correct/adjust the personal and professional lives for the better.
It's been a great experience! It's one of the ways I can give back to a community I believe in. Being a minority myself, I know the good and the not so good of the industry. To be able to help others navigate the terrain is something I wish I had when I first got into tech. I'm also learning a lot through Patience and the mentees.
I have gained new lifetime friends, mentors, people that I can reach out to when I have questions, it open doors for things that I would have not opened by myself, it gave me speed as I am not starting from scratch but learning from people who have walked the journey.
Being part of this group has been meaningful to me both personally and professionally. It helped restore my passion for my career by reminding me that I was not alone on this journey. Connecting with individuals who have shared experiences, particularly as someone of African Caribbean descent, provided reassurance, encouragement, and understanding. The group fostered a strong sense of belonging and consistently motivated me to stay focused and confident in pursuing my goals
I like to give back, and especially help people through rough spots. This was an opportunity to do that, within a good organisational structure, with explicit expectations on everyone's roles.
